What is SCORM?
SCORM, is an acronym for “Sharable Content Object Reference Model” and is an information standard for E-Learning that was first developed in 2001. The goal was to create a series of rules that would allow training content to become “portable” so it could be delivered and measured by different LMS platforms.
For an LMS admin, a typical SCORM file looks like a ZIP archive. This ZIP file contains all the text, pictures, videos, and everything you add to a training course. The SCORM file assists in grouping content together and sequencing multiple assets like text, videos, and quizzes for the learner through a code that governs their interactions.
As a mechanism of interaction between a training course and an LMS, SCORM allows Admins to set rules for moving between learning units. For instance, you can make learners study the text content first, and only then let them watch a video lecture. This enables Administrators to track the training course table of content as separate entities and mark training as complete or incomplete, or in the case of a quiz, passed or failed.
SCORM thus basically acts as an interface between the two essential elements of an LMS — the learning platform and course content to understand each other and to work together. With a SCORM compliant LMS, content can be created one time and used in many different systems and situations without modification.
The Benefits of Using SCORM
Easy Import: SCORM courses are easily accessible as they can be readily imported from third party content libraries. Additionally, training content from other SCORM-compliant LMS solutions can be seamlessly migrated into KloudLearn.
Interactive Training: SCORM courses contain interactive training modules and dynamic assessments that facilitate a superior learning experience.
Tracking and Reporting: KloudLearn facilitates the import, delivery, and measurement of high-quality SCORM compliant training content. Track and monitor learner data corresponding to completion status, progress, performance, and more.
